The Emotions, Thoughtful; English

The Emotions
by Joana Angelides

Is a feeling something to attack?
Sober people will say no. But once a feeling is there, you can feel it, it fills you up and can be bigger, smaller, more violent, urgent or uplifting.

Some wish it was something compact, something that could be attacked,
Is the feeling only within us, or does it surround us, envelop us, even dominate us?

"I have such a feeling ..." is what people sometimes say. Where do we have it, this feeling?

I feel you.
I miss that feeling
My feeling tells me..
My feelings for you are overwhelming.
.............

You could add a lot! And yet nobody can attack it, nor can you hold onto it. It is either there or not.

It would be nice if you could hold emotions in your hand, hold them, turn and turn them.
The question also arises as to whether a feeling is a complex whole, or whether it is just a single feeling? If you could just touch them, it would be possible to keep them, put others away and only bring them out when needed or when we wish.

Feelings are also difficult to classify. There are positive feelings, but also negative feelings that leave us indifferent, maybe even frightening.

In any case, feelings are unpredictable. You can rarely influence them yourself, they often develop a life of their own. What is frightening is the fact that they can very well be influenced by external influences.

And so a wide variety of emotions take up a lot of space in our lives and often cause us to stumble a little, because they throw us back and forth and rational thinking is often switched off as a result.

As nice as it would be to hold our emotions in our hands as something real to treat, they are independent and cannot really be influenced by ourselves.
